A Shiny New Year for Baltimore ManThursday, January 5th, 2012
New Year starts on a high note for John Robinson of Baltimore.
Wins $50,000 Playing Bonus Match 5
A Baltimore man is beginning the New Year on a high note. John Robinson arrived at Lottery Headquarters yesterday to claim his $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win from a ticket he purchased in December. He held the ticket for an entire week before checking to see if it was a winner.
“It was sitting in my truck the whole time,” said John. Just a few days before Christmas, the steelworker, remembered he had the ticket and decided to see if he had won anything. “The cashier looked at me and said he couldn’t cash it and that I needed to go to Lottery Headquarters,” he said. “I could not believe I had won something that big.”
John said his wife chose the numbers and he immediately went home to share the news with her. “We were both shocked, but happy,” said the lucky player. “I never thought I was going to hit, but it really happened.”
The 63-year-old grandfather-of-five said he is going to get savings bonds for his grandchildren and will use some of the winnings towards bills. The winning ticket was purchased at Mini Stop located at 2413 Sparrows Point Rd. in Baltimore.
