Maryland Lottery Awards Television Drawings Contract to WBAL-TVWednesday, January 5th, 2011
The Board of Public Works today approved the Maryland Lottery’s contract award for televised drawings of the Lottery’s online games and related services, naming WBAL-TV as the recipient. The station won the contract in a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
Under the four-and-a-half-year contract, WBAL-TV, Hearst Television, Inc. will continue to provide televised drawings of the Lottery’s online games and related services. Among the services included are: producing, televising and promoting drawings in the Baltimore market area, as well as promoting winning numbers, Lottery winners and other related Lottery games, events and more. “WBAL-TV has been an excellent partner over the past four years,” said Lottery Director Stephen Martino. “We’re looking forward to continuing this successful relationship.”
The new contract begins on January 6, 2011 and runs through June, 30, 2015 with one two-year renewal option. The $7.4 million four-and-a-half year base contract reflects a 44% reduction in price, saving the state approximately $1.1 million per year. Savings may increase to 47%, dependent upon the exercising of additional contract options. The 2-year renewal option amount is approximately $3.3 million.
“Although the previous contract had a two-year renewal option, we chose to conduct a new procurement process in order to obtain better pricing,” said Martino. “The Maryland Lottery’s goal is to generate revenue to support important state programs, so saving the state money is top priority.”
