BACKGROUND
The Maryland Lottery is responsible for regulating the day-to-day operations of Maryland casinos while ensuring integrity and transparency in all facility functions.
Currently, there are two casinos operating in Maryland: Hollywood Casino Perryville, which opened in September 2010, and Casino at Ocean Downs, which opened in January 2011. To date, the casinos have generated $227.6 million in revenue with more than $110 million going to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund.
Maryland Live! is scheduled to open Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in Anne Arundel County. This facility will be the largest casino in the state of Maryland with 4,750 slot machines when fully operational.
Two additional casinos are moving forward: Western Maryland’s Rocky Gap Resort (Evitts Resort, LLC was recently awarded a conditional license) and Baltimore City (Caesar’s Entertainment/Rock Gaming is undergoing a background investigation).
