Silver Spring woman claims Money Talks scratch-off top prize
A Silver Spring woman who had never played a Maryland Lottery scratch-off game is $50,000 richer because she followed her husband’s suggestion to buy a $5 Money Talks scratch-off.
He is a regular scratch-off player so she let him scratch the ticket and read the results when they were at home alone. Was she ever surprised when he shared the great news that she won $50,000 the first time she ever bought a scratch-off game!
“It still doesn’t seem real,” our stunned winner said as she claimed her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “He was very happy! It’s just not real to me right now.”
The mother of four children ages 10 to 24 came alone to claim her prize so her husband could stay home with the youngest members of their family. The couple plans to use the winnings to catch up on bills, she said, because her husband is disabled and cannot work. They also will take their children to the beach next summer for a family vacation and put the rest of the money into the bank. Vacations are a rarity, the 42-year-old said. She works as a support staff member for the Montgomery County Board of Education.
