Powerball Jackpot Increases to $325 Million (2/11)
Friday, February 10th, 2012Due to overwhelming nationwide sales, the Powerball jackpot for Saturday night has just increased to $325 million, with a cash option of $202.9 million, becoming the third-largest Powerball jackpot ever. If there is no top-tier winner, Wednesday night’s jackpot will be $415 million — the largest jackpot in American lottery history.
The Powerball jackpot has been rolling since Christmas Eve when a single winning ticket was purchased right here in Maryland’s Cecil County. The jackpot has grown so fast due to recent changes to the multi-state. The starting jackpots have doubled to $40 million and the minimum increase when it rolls is $10 million.
In addition to Maryland’s Christmas Eve win, the state had another jackpot winner in September 2011 when a Harford County couple won $108.8 million. The state has also produced 21 $200,000 second-tier winners since it went on sale in Maryland in January 2010, including three with Power Play for $1 million each.
Powerball drawings can be seen on Wednesday and Saturday evenings at 11:22 p.m. on WBAL-TV, Channel 11. The drawings are later rebroadcast on Maryland Public Television.
