Super Crossword Spells Big Win
for Mt. Rainier Woman
Scratch-off Pays $50,000 Top Prize
(Baltimore) – Cassandra Patterson, a National Children’s Center
employee, was on her way home from the grocery store Saturday when
she decided to make her daily stop at Kaywood Liquors to purchase
three Super Crossword scratch-off tickets. It was after
scratching her second Super Crossword later at home, that
Cassandra realized she was a winner. “I was overwhelmed, I thought I
just won $10,000,” said the Mt. Rainier resident, who would soon
learn she actually won $50,000.
When the 43-year-old called her daughter, Michelle, to tell her the
great news, she was greeted with skepticism. “I thought she was
playing, I told her I had to see the ticket,” said Michelle, who
accompanied her mother to Lottery headquarters. Cassandra then told
her sister, Joan; her best friend; her husband; her mother; and a
host of other family and friends. However, it wasn’t until she told
her son, Perry, that he looked at the ticket and found another word.
They then realized she didn’t have a $10,000 winner, but instead a
$50,000 Super Crossword winning ticket. “Then I was really
overwhelmed. Wooo,” the mother-of-seven exclaimed.
The grandmother-of-three plans to use her winnings to pay bills and
go on vacation. The ticket was purchased at Kaywood Liquors, 2205
Varnum Street in Mt. Rainier.
