Charles County Woman’s Hunger Serves Up
$30,000 Win
4 Way Bingo $30,000 Top Prize
(Baltimore) Donna Simpson was hungry and
exhausted on Saturday, after helping her husband straighten out his
late-sister’s home. When he and their son decided to go to a
tractor-pull that evening, she declined, choosing instead to go out
and get a slice of pizza. After purchasing her slice and a drink,
she debated buying a couple Lottery scratch-offs. “I almost left
without them,” said Donna. “But I just had a gut feeling you know,
so I went back in and got two 4 Way Bingo tickets.
Later that evening at home she sat alone
at the kitchen table and scratched the tickets. The first ticket
revealed a $3 win. The second, which was the $30,000 winner, made
Donna cry. “I looked at the ticket in shock and then I just cried, I
was so tired and now I was so happy,” Donna declared. “The win
reenergized me, I wasn’t so tired then.”
Donna, who was accompanied to Lottery
headquarters by her husband, William and one of their sons, Thomas,
said that she checked, rechecked and checked the ticket again.
Finally, convinced she’d won, she called Thomas at the tractor pull.
“I told him, tell Daddy I won $30,000. “He said nuh-uh, than I said,
uh-huh, he said nuh-uh, I said uh-huh,” said the mother-of-four,
chuckling. Later when Thomas returned home and checked the ticket,
he said, “Momma, it is a winner.”
The 52-year-old, who works as a bus
attendant for Charles County Schools, intends to put some of her
winnings in the bank and pay a few bills. But, first she’s going to
give her husband money for new tires that he’s been wanting. “I just
love money, it makes life easier,” said William, with a hearty
laugh.
The winning ticket was purchased at
Burchmart #228, located at 10195 Berry Road in Waldorf.
