First Dream for the Gold Top-Prize Awarded
$10,000 Scratch-off Winner

(Baltimore) A Frederick County woman became the first $10,000 top-prize winner for one of the Maryland Lottery’s newest scratch-offs, Dream for the Gold.

“It felt good to be the very first,” said the woman smiling. An occasional Lottery player, she selects games that are easy to play. She chose Dream for the Gold for its simplicity and because it was new.  The ticket, which celebrates the 2008 summer games, launched on June 30th.

She was working Tuesday and on her break went to the Lottery retailer which is right next door to her place of employment. While there, she decided to buy a few Dream for the Gold scratch-offs. She scratched the tickets and to her amazement saw what she thought was a winner. “I didn’t believe it,” she said. “I had the clerk scan it.”

After scanning the ticket, the clerk confirmed her big $10,000 top-prize win. Earlier that very day, she had won $15 playing Dream for the Gold. After digesting the good news, she went back to work and immediately told her co-workers. “It was an interesting shift,” she said, laughing.

With her prize money, the winner and her husband plan to get their tin roof painted. They also hope to get the bathroom fixed and buy a big screen TV.

The winning ticket was purchased at Tristate Liquors located at 96 Sounder Rd. in Frederick County.
