Postal Worker
Gets Delivery of His Life
Wins $250,000 Mega Millions prize
(Baltimore) – Just one number away from winning the
entire Mega Millions jackpot, a Prince George’s County postal
worker was the recipient of the second-tier prize of $250,000.
The man purchased
his ticket in August at the Seat Pleasant BP on 5818 MLK Jr. Highway
in Seat Pleasant. But, he didn’t arrive at Lottery Headquarters
until this past Monday to claim his win. In fact, it wasn’t until
early this month that he even checked his ticket. The
28-year-veteran of the postal service then phoned the customer
service line at Lottery Headquarters on four different occasions to
verify his numbers. “I cried,” he said when finally convinced he’d
won. “I have been playing for many years in hopes that I could win
and retire early….and it happened.”
The 56-year-old
winner, who is single, notified his brother, sister and nephew about
his good fortune. “Once the check clears, I plan to retire,” he
said. “I’ll also help out family, church and continue to pay rent at
my apartment.”
Maryland has been
a lucky state for many Mega Millions players. On Tuesday,
the $24 million Mega Millions winning ticket was sold at
Carroll Station in Baltimore, blocks from Lottery headquarters.
Since January, there have been 26 second-tier $250,000 Mega
Millions prizes awarded in Maryland.
