Super Crossword Spells $50,000 Win for East Baltimore Man

(
Baltimore) – The delighted Super Crossword winner arrived at Lottery Headquarters today with his wife and daughter by his side. An avid scratch-off fan, the 73-year-old man visited one of his usual Lottery retailers on Sunday and purchased eight Super Crossword scratch-offs. He took them home and scratched them, his wife by his side. “I started scratching and went through all of them,” he said. “Then I got to number eight and there was the biggie.” The “biggie” he referred to was the ticket’s top-tier $50,000 prize.

When a Lottery official inquired how his wife of ten years felt, she responded with a wide eyed expression and a dropped jaw. The winner’s 50-year-old-daughter also expressed disbelief, saying, “I thought they were lying.”

Once they realized the win was real, the man’s 68-year-old wife hid the winning ticket under a rug in their home until bringing it into the claim center.

The retired truck driver intends to pay bills with his prize money.  He may also take a trip to the Eastern Shore to visit relatives.

The winning ticket was sold at Hopkins Citgo, located at 2001 Orleans St. in Baltimore City.
