A Fun Hobby Turns Into a $30,000 Win

Glen Burnie Man Wins Playing Doubling Star Crossword

(Baltimore) – A lucky player’s daily routine is simple. Before heading to work with his son in the morning, he stops at the store to purchase a cup of coffee and some scratch-offs, preferably Crossword or Bingo. The two of them, who work together, then proceed to their jobs. Before starting the workday, he sits in his truck and takes a few minutes to scratch his tickets and drink his coffee. Today he experienced a pleasant surprise when he scratched off a $30,000 win on the Doubling Star Crossword scratch-off.

“When I scratched it, I thought it was only $1,000, so I had my son look at it,” he said. “My son thought it was for $5,000.” The father and son then went into work for five hours before deciding to cash the ticket. “We took the ticket to another retailer who told us the win was really worth $30,000,” said the 64-year-old carpenter. “I was in shock.” They immediately came to Lottery Headquarters to cash the ticket.

The winner said he is going to pay bills with his prize money. The winning ticket was purchased at Fishpaws Liquors and Deli located at 954 Ritchie Highway in Arnold.
