Lottery Players Win Big at Maryland Million Event
$10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 Prizes Given Away
(Baltimore) – The horses came in for three lucky
Lottery players at Maryland Million Day at Laurel Park on October 4th.
Their Racetrax tickets were selected from hundreds of entries
to win $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500.
Carlton Barnett, from Upper Marlboro,
won the $10,000 top prize. When he heard his name called, he jumped
up and ran over to the Winner’s Circle, where the drawing was taking
place. With his winnings, the 45-year-old United States Postal
Service employee plans to pay bills and have an extra-special
birthday on Sunday.
Calvin Hicks, a 61-year-old retired
Washington, DC police officer, won the $5,000 prize. The
Mitchellville man plans to buy golf clubs and take a cruise with his
winnings. 65-year-old Paul Hawkins, from District Heights, won
$2,500. With his winnings, he may purchase a trailer.
The Lottery, working in concert with
Maryland’s horseracing industry, launched a promotion last month.
Players who brought a non-winning Racetrax ticket to the
Maryland Million event received free admission. Once inside,
those tickets were entered into the second-chance drawing, which was
held at the race track. Racetrax is a virtual horseracing
Lottery game played at retail locations across the State.
More than 21,000 people attended the
Maryland Million event on Saturday. Along with the second-chance
contest, the Lottery had a booth where players could spin the prize
wheel and learn more about the Lottery.
