Baltimore Man Wins $20,000 Top
Prize on Cash Word
Scratch-Off
(Baltimore) – A
Baltimore man scratched his Cash Word ticket, satisfying his
itch for cash by winning the ticket’s $20,000 top prize. “He had an
itch in his hand, so we knew he’d be lucky,” his wife said. “We
knew he had to buy a ticket.” The 63-year-old borrowed $2 from his
son to purchase the Cash Word scratch-off. He scratched the
winning ticket at the store on Friday and hurried home to share the
news with his family.
The lucky man
came to Lottery Headquarters on Monday accompanied by his wife and
his best friend. “Every time we’d drive past Montgomery Park, he’d
point and say, ‘We’ll be there someday,’” his friend said. “I knew
we’d make it.”
The lucky
winner, who is a spray painter, suffered from a work-related injury
to the knee, and has been home for almost a month. He began playing
Keno to pass the time, and then decided to try his luck on
scratch-offs.
The
father-of-four plans to share his winnings with his sons. His first
purchase will be a computer for his youngest son, who starts his
final year of college this fall. “The win couldn’t have come at a
better time,” he said.
The winning
ticket was purchased at Patapsco Village Liquors, located at 3434
Annapolis Road in Baltimore.
