Ticket Sales Increase Jackpot to $333 Million –
the second largest in Mega Millions History
(Baltimore) – The prospect of winning the second largest jackpot in
Mega Millions history has dreamers lining up in droves to
purchase their Mega Millions tickets. The onslaught of
Mega Millions players and better-than-estimated sales, resulted
in the jackpot increasing from an already staggering $325 million to
$333 million for tonight’s drawing, with a
cash option amount of $210.4 million. If there is no jackpot winner
in this evening’s Mega Millions game, the jackpot will likely
roll to a new world record for the largest jackpot ever.
March 2007’s $390
million Mega Millions jackpot currently holds the record for
the world’s largest. The biggest jackpot in Maryland, $183 million,
was won in June 2003 by Bernadette Gietka, from Baltimore County.
The jackpot has been rolling since
July 7, 2009 when a $133 million winning ticket was won in
New York.
The multi-state
Mega Millions game is played in Maryland, Georgia, Illinois,
Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia,
Washington, Texas and
California. The numbers for Mega Millions can be seen on Tuesday
and Friday evenings at
11:22 pm on WBAL-TV,
channel 11.
