Timing is Everything for Washington County Man
$10,000 Mega Millions Win Buys Family Time
(Baltimore) – When everything around you
is going wrong and all seems lost, sometimes a ray of light – or in
this case luck – breaks through the clouds. Such was the case for
Jerry Chafin, a Williamsport man whose family has been dealing with
serious financial hardship recently.
“I’ve been laid-off
one week a month for a long time now,” Jerry told Lottery officials,
“Our savings are pretty much gone but the bills keep coming.”
Jerry, a manager for a manufacturing firm, has put off retirement
and even considered selling the home in which he and his wife Betty
have raised five children.
The Chafins play Mega Millions every week because they enjoy
dreaming about what they might do with millions of dollars. Jerry
checked Friday’s winning numbers and had to look again, sure he’d
read them incorrectly. He had Betty look and because neither
believed their eyes, they drove to their local Lottery retailer to
have them look. When all was said and done, everyone agreed:
they’d won $10,000.
“The check I have here in my hand is within $75 of what we owe
through next month,” he told us, still not really seeming to believe
it. “I’m not a religious man, but the timing of this for my family
is hard to ignore.”
Jerry bought his
lucky Mega Millions ticket from Castle’s Liquors, 12
Milestone Terrace in Williamsport.
