Mega Millions
Jackpot Rolls to $145 Million
Maryland Players Also On a Roll as Number of Lower Tier Wins
Continues to Grow
(Baltimore) – No one hit Tuesday night’s Mega Millions
jackpot which now raises the stakes to an impressive $145 million
for Friday night’s drawing. While many players have visions of the
“huge” prize dancing in their heads, Lottery officials are quick to
remind them that the Mega Millions game produces lots of
other winners.
In fact, the game has been very generous to Marylanders in 2009.
The second and third tier prizes being awarded each week are
approaching record-breaking levels. In just the first week of
October two Marylanders won Mega Millions’ $250,000
second-tier prizes bringing the total since January to 29. Since
January, 166 Marylanders have won third-tier $10,000 prizes.
“Whenever the
jackpot climbs to more than $100 million, interest also peaks. But,
I am always eager to let players know about the other substantial
prizes that they can win playing Mega Millions,” said Lottery
Director Buddy Roogow. He also encouraged players to be certain to
check their tickets and reminds them that there are currently two
$250,000 Mega Millions’ prizes remaining unclaimed. These include:
6/23/09 sold at
Royal Farms in Elkton
10/2/09 Piney
Creek Mart in Chester
The multi-state
game is played in 11 other states, including Georgia, Illinois,
Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia,
Washington, Texas and California. Mega Millions drawings can be seen
on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 11:22 p.m. on WBAL-TV, Channel 11.
