$40,000-Winning Mega Millions ticket sold in Pasadena

$800 million jackpot won in Texas; kicks off Maryland’s Jackpot Reset Promotion

While the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot was hit in Texas last night, Maryland had plenty of winners, too. The state had 48,632 winning tickets, including a $40,000 third-tier winner sold in Pasadena.

Check your tickets! The winning numbers from the Sept. 10 Mega Millions drawing were 1, 2, 16, 24 and 66; the gold Mega Ball was 6 and the Megaplier was x4.

The Megaplier helped our $40,000 winner, who was among 7,181 Maryland players who added the multiplier option to their tickets. The Pasadena player, whose third-tier prize of $10,000 quadrupled to $40,000, purchased the lucky ticket at Dash In #1530 at 3900 Mountain Road in Anne Arundel County.

This jackpot was the seventh largest in the game’s history and just the third won in 2024. The roll started with the June 7 drawing and generated total prizes to Maryland players, ranging from $2 to $1 million, of $4,397,346. One second-tier $1 million prize-winning ticket sold for the July 19 drawing is still unclaimed. That ticket was sold at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg.

Also sold in Maryland during the jackpot roll were 19 third-tier winning tickets; nine are unclaimed as of Sept. 11. Fifteen players won $10,000 and four third-tier winners with the Megaplier option won $40,000 (two tickets) and $30,000 (two tickets).

This jackpot reset kicks off the Maryland Lottery’s popular Jackpot Reset Promotion. From Sept. 13 through Sept. 26 (unless another jackpot is hit), the promotion will issue at random a free $2 Powerball ticket to players who purchase a Mega Millions ticket. The free ticket will print immediately after the purchase and is good for the next Powerball drawing.

Lottery officials encourage all winners to sign the backs of their tickets immediately and put them in a safe location. They get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.

Instructions for claiming prizes are available on the How to Claim page of the Lottery website. Prizes of more than $25,000 must be claimed through Lottery headquarters, either in person or by mail. Lottery headquarters is in the Montgomery Park Business Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330, in Baltimore. An appointment is required to claim in person (no walk-ins). The appointment scheduling page shows all available appointment times.
