Quick-pick ticket brings big win
A Maryland Lottery player from Lanham won $50,000 playing Powerball in the first drawing following the one that saw a $366.7 million jackpot hit in Vermont.
The 30-year-old player’s quick-pick ticket had the potential to win the starting-level prize of $20 million. The Prince George’s County resident was one of two players in Maryland to win the $50,000 third-tier prize in the July 2 drawing and one of a dozen people across the U.S. to score that amount.
The lucky lady is keeping news of her winnings a secret and has only told a few people about her prize. While excited to have claimed the windfall, she hadn’t made any plans for it yet. She does anticipate having a celebration, however.
The hot ticket came from AJ Liquors, located at 3801 Bladensburg Road in Brentwood. No one has hit the jackpot so players can try to win $48 million in the July 9 drawing. The cash option is $27.9 million.
