“Navy Brat” was planning to retire this year, but winning $50,000 on a Powerball quick-pick ticket helped seal the deal.
Player bought winning ticket after thinking of her father
A woman from Annapolis who plays the Lottery when she thinks of her late father picked up two Powerball combinations for the Jan. 11 drawing and won a $50,000 third-tier prize.
“My dad and I used to do scratch-offs when he was sick. When I think of my dad, I buy Lottery tickets,” said the player, who is using the alias “Navy Brat” to tell her story.
“Much to my surprise, when I checked, I had won,” she said. “I was pretty excited, and shocked!”
“Navy Brat” added, “I had to check it twice. I had to get my glasses because all the zeros made it hard to read.”
When she realized her good fortune, she let it sink in for a while. Then, the Anne Arundel County resident called her two adult children and two friends to share the news.
Asked about her plans for the windfall, she said, “I’m retiring this year. This just bolsters (that) my retirement timing is right.”
As for playing again, she said it is likely she’ll buy more tickets when she thinks of her dad.
“Could I actually win again?” she asked, acknowledging that the odds are low, but it does happen. She bought the lucky $4 quick-pick ticket at Green Valley Marketplace, which is located at 1238 Bay Dale Drive in Arnold.
