Hot instant ticket sold at store just south of the Delaware line
“Winning!” is what a Salisbury woman says she enjoys most about playing Maryland Lottery games, but her previous prizes were nothing like the $50,000 she claimed this week on the $5 Joker’s Wild instant ticket.
A Lottery regular, the Eastern Shore resident reports having won prizes in the past. She absolutely enjoys that aspect of the game.
“Nothing big. I’ve won like $1,000,” she said, noting that was her previous personal best.
The Wicomico County woman purchased the Joker’s Wild scratch-off at Corner Market on the Maryland side of the South Bi-State Boulevard crossroads in the border town of Delmar.
“I had $5 left and decided to buy one ticket,” she said, elaborating that there were two active books of the Joker’s Wild game and she chose her instant ticket, unknowingly, from the right book of scratch-offs. She took the instant ticket to her car to play.
“I was sitting in my car and when I got to the last number, I’m thinking, ‘Did I see this right?’ I went back in the store and asked, ‘Am I seeing this right?’ and she said, ‘Yeah, you’re seeing it right!’”
With her winnings, the loyal player plans to pay off her car loan, take care of some loose ends, help her two daughters as well as “Buy whatever I need or want!”
The big win hasn’t curbed her interest in winning more funds. Asked if she would continue playing, the scratch-off fan initially said, “Maybe here and there,” but quickly added, “You know I am!”
Sharing in the win is Corner Mart at 15 Bi-State Boulevard. The Wicomico County business receives a Lottery bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The Joker’s Wild instant ticket went on sale July 22 and in the ensuing seven weeks, players have won three of the initial eight $50,000 top prizes. In addition, six of 10 $5,000 prizes and 18 of 30 $1,000 prizes remain unclaimed, along with hundreds of thousands of others ranging from $5 to $500.
