Prize eyed for house down payment or truck purchase
After two bites of his lunch, Robert Ballard of Baltimore stopped eating. The excited scratch-off player had just won $50,000.
“I play scratch-offs and it finally came up,” the city resident said on Feb. 22 while claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
During a recent lunch break, he stopped by Eaton Liquors at 101 South Eaton Street in Baltimore and bought a few scratch-offs. Then, he ducked into a nearby eatery and ordered a meal, with plans to enjoy scratching instant tickets while dining.
“It was the second one,” Robert said. “I took like two bites and then went back to work.” The excited, shocked player just couldn’t eat after realizing the scope of his lucky score.
His $50,000 win came on the $20 Show Me $1,000,000! Game, which has two of six top prizes of $1 million remaining. Robert won the fourth of six prizes at the $50,000 second-tier level, leaving another two of that magnitude for players to find.
Robert hasn’t yet decided what to do with his winnings, although a new truck or a down payment on a house were occupying top spots in his thinking. He also plans to share some of the funds with his children.
“I’ll get them a little somethin’ somethin’,” he said.
