A $1 million scratch-off prize might help family members of “Double Winners” of Gaithersburg launch businesses.
Gaithersburg woman claims top prize on Million Dollar Mega Multiplier game
A Gaithersburg woman says her husband always shares his scratch-offs with her so she is sharing the $1 million prize won on one of his scratch-offs with him. The “Double Winners,” as she nicknamed their husband-and-wife scratch-off team, will keep the prize in their family, too.
The 51-year-old said she was home with her husband and daughter when she started to scratch-off the winning Million Dollar Mega Multiplier instant ticket. At first, she thought she won $10,000 but then realized multiple matching numbers with $10,000 prizes boosted her score into a $1 million top prize.
“We were excited. We were happy and we cried,” she said, recalling that the family members surrounded her after the win.
The Montgomery County resident is an online sales associate and her husband is a construction worker. She wants to use the money to start her own business. Her adult daughter works at a hair salon and the “Double Winners” might help the daughter start her own salon.
“I plan to help family with this money,” she said. “We might take a few vacations, too.”
Some players might stop playing after winning $1 million, but “Double Winners” said she will continue to seek another trip to the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters. “I will continue to buy scratch-offs,” she said.
Her winning $20 scratch-off came from 7-Eleven #32389 at 7980 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $1 million top-prize winning scratch-off.
The Million Dollar Mega Multiplier game went on sale July 18 and this is the first $1 million top-prize winning instant ticket sold. Six $1 million winning scratch-offs are still unclaimed along with seven $50,000 prizes and more than 140 $10,000 prizes.
