Misses historic $2.04 billion jackpot by one number
A 33-year-old jackpot chaser won a third-tier $50,000 Powerball prize last week, just missing the historic $2.04 billion jackpot in the Nov. 7 drawing by one number. The lucky player from Wicomico County said she was already preparing for her win days before the drawing.
“I’ve been playing Powerball since it really got big,” said the Salisbury resident. “I was already researching what to do if I win.”
She joined other players in watching the Powerball jackpot steadily grow higher and higher after each drawing. Not wanting to miss out on all of the fun, the Powerball fan made sure to buy tickets that Monday in preparation for the evening drawing. She stopped at Wawa #555 located at 668 South Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury to purchase her games. The lucky lady said she stayed awake for the drawing, waiting through the night until the winning numbers were announced, due to a delay, the next morning.
“I knew in my spirit that I was a winner,” she said.
The loyal player checked her tickets using the Lottery mobile app. After realizing she matched four white balls and the red Powerball for a $50,000 prize, she immediately called her husband, who was upstairs, to share the good news. Together, they rechecked the numbers on the quick-pick ticket again and again to be certain she won.
“I thought she was lying,” he said, smiling, “but then, I saw it with my own eyes.”
The parents of four children signed the ticket and put it in the back of a Bible. They even brought the Bible with them last week when they claimed the $50,000 prize. They plan to use the money toward two businesses they own and to take a family vacation.
