Baltimore man wins top prize in Jan. 5 drawing
As he travels for work all over Maryland, the Baltimore man buys Lottery tickets at spots across the state. But a Bonus Match 5 ticket purchased in his hometown on Jan. 5 gave the lucky player a $50,000 top-prize win.
“I’ve been playing it for a while,” he said, adding that he always goes with the quick-pick option rather than selecting his own numbers.
Claiming his prize Jan. 17 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, the winner characterizes his Lottery play as “successful” because he enjoys it. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, he hit for $400 just before taking a vacation with his wife.
With his $50,000 in winnings – far and away his biggest prize to date – he and his wife may well take another vacation similar to the one that coincided with his previous Lottery win. In addition, a landmark birthday is coming up and his wife said the prize will make a celebration of that big day a little more spectacular.
Meanwhile, the loyal player plans to keep enjoying his hobby. “I got tickets this morning,” he said.
Sharing in his good fortune is Parkway Exxon at 5600 Reisterstown Road in Baltimore, where he bought the hot $6 ticket. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning ticket, the gas station receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery.
