Claims $50,000 top prize playing $50,000 Cash game
A Pennsylvania player who has taken home more than $1 million in Lottery prizes from Maryland over the last decade assured Lottery officials that, despite their frequency, every one of the wins shocked him. His latest surprise occurred last Friday, when he uncovered a top prize scratching the $50,000 Cash game. Believe it or not, this is his second time winning $50,000 playing the popular $20 scratch-off.
As his work in construction often causes him to visit Maryland, the 53-year-old Hanover resident finds frequent opportunities to check the Lottery options south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
“I buy a ticket or two at least once a week, either at home or down here,” he explained. “All my Lottery luck seems to be in Maryland, however.”
Highs #114 at 15303 Hanover Pike in Upperco was holding the key to our winner’s latest cash bonanza. “I pick scratch-offs randomly,” the lucky man said. “I picked out three, including $50,000 Cash.”
Scratching off the instant tickets, he then scanned each one for a win, tossing the first two into a nearby trash bin because they were non-winners. “I was about to drop the third – the $50,000 Cash ticket – into the can when I saw the message on the scanner.”
Excited that he might have won one of the game’s lesser (although still significant) prizes, he scratched away the remainder of the latex. “I thought maybe I’d won $5,000. Having won the game’s top prize just last month, there wasn’t the tiniest sliver of a thought that it’d be $50,000.”
Our neighbor to the north will add his top-prize winnings to his savings. Management at the lucky High’s store will soon have an extra $500 to add to their account, too. The store will receive that bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.
The $50,000 Cash game debuted in December with an unusually large number of top prizes – 160. Subtracting the Hanover man’s two wins, 110 top prizes remain unclaimed along with 119 of the game’s $5,000 second-tier prizes.
