Grocery store visit turns lucky
A Parkville man who just began playing scratch-offs a few months ago is already celebrating a $50,000 top-prize win. Lady Luck paid him a visit a couple of weeks ago, and this week he visited the Lottery’s Winner’s Circle room to claim his prize.
The father of three said he’s always a fan of jackpot games, and he plays Mega Millions and Powerball every so often. More recently, he decided to add scratch-offs to his Lottery fun, and he’s been a fan ever since.
On a recent visit to the Food Lion store in Nottingham he picked up a variety of his favorite scratch-off games, including a $20 $50,000 Cash ticket, which he chose because the game is loaded with $50,000 top prizes. He scratched his tickets after getting home.
“I normally scratch the winning numbers and my numbers first to see if I have a match,” the winner said with a smile. “I did and the prize underneath blew me away.”
Indeed, the prize he was referring to was $50,000, one of the ticket’s many top prizes. The popular scratch-off launched in December with 160 top prizes, and it now has 104 that remain unclaimed, along with 115 prizes of $5,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $20 to $500.
“I’m so excited,” said the former warehouse employee. “The saying is true, ‘you have to play to win.’”
The Baltimore County resident said he’s not sure what he’s going to do with the prize money. His immediate plans are to save the winnings and continue to play a few Lottery games here and there like always.
For selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Food Lion #1413 is also a winner. The Baltimore County store located at 8635 Walther Blvd. will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
