“Rudy” of Frederick used a pattern of numbers to secure a $53,200 Bonus Match 5 prize.
‘Rudy’ hit four of five numbers on eight lines for total prize
A Frederick man used a combination of his address and different patterns of numbers to create a $53,200 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.
The lucky winner, who is using the nickname “Rudy” for anonymity, compares himself to the underdog character from the famous movie about a Notre Dame football player. “Rudy” explained that he has purchased nine lines for each Bonus Match 5 game for years and always includes his address in each row with other numbers.
“I always said I’m going to win or lose with these patterns,” “Rudy” said with a smile.
He wasn’t kidding. The Frederick County resident matched the winning numbers of 12, 18, 20, 21 and 25 for the top prize of $50,000 in the March 23 drawing. He also used four of those same numbers on the rest of the $6 ticket and hit four out of five numbers on the other eight lines.
That helped “Rudy” rack up an additional $3,200 for a total prize of $53,200.
The delivery driver recalls that he was at home, checking his numbers on the phone, when he discovered his lucky win. His ticket was outside in his car, but he said he had no need to go outside for confirmation of his Lottery luck.
“I didn’t need to check. I know my numbers,” he explained.
“Rudy” plans to put his prize into the bank. He bought the winning ticket at Jefferson Street Exxon in Frederick. For selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game, the Frederick County retailer located at 400 South Jefferson Street will receive a $500 bonus.
