Famous actor appeared, told him to buy a ticket
How often does he play Powerball? The $50,000 third-tier winner in the Sept. 7 drawing said he seldom plays, noting with a laugh that the timing of this purchase was tied to “a good dream.”
That dream occurred on the evening of Sept. 6, when a “famous actor” who shall remain as anonymous as the winner told the sleeping Baltimore resident to buy a Powerball ticket. No drawing date was specified and no numbers given in the dream. When he woke up on Sept. 7, the grandfather of three recalled the dream and went to work as usual at his job in the entertainment industry. He stopped at White Marsh Plaza Liquors, 7968 Honeygo Boulevard in White Marsh, on his way home and bought one $8 quick-pick Powerball ticket for the Sept. 7 drawing.
“I didn’t know what numbers to pick,” the winner said, and hoped he was making the right choice in letting the terminal pick his numbers. The next day, he was at work and saw the winning numbers but couldn’t check his ticket. It was safe at home in a drawer.
“I said, ‘I’ll check it tomorrow,’” the player recalled. Tomorrow came and went. Two days later, he and his wife were together when he decided to check the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app on his phone. Doubtful about the message saying he won $50,000, the lucky dreamer visited a local retailer to scan the ticket and confirm his prize.
The winner and his wife plan to use the newfound fortune to help them buy a house in 2025. They are keeping his Lottery luck a secret from everyone except his sister, who accompanied him to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.
Are you dreaming of a big win? There’s still time to get Powerball tickets for the Monday, Sept. 24 drawing. No one hit the jackpot on Saturday, so the estimated jackpot annuity for tonight’s drawing rolled to $208 million. The cash option is $104.6 million.
