Greenbelt Man’s NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ Ends With $7,500

Greenbelt resident Christopher Goggins followed his NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ journey by watching the races to see if he advanced to the next round.

Winner followed the NASCAR races with anticipation

Christopher Goggins’ wild ride came to an end in the NASCAR Powerball Playoff™ as it was announced during the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville that he didn’t advance to the Championship 4 Round. The Greenbelt resident still goes home with a $7,500 prize for making it to the Round of 8.

“It was very exciting. It’s been nerve-racking, but it was fun,” Christopher said.

The federal worker stated that he is a casual NASCAR fan. He is a long-life Washington Commanders fan and still follows former Washington coach Joe Gibbs, who has a team in NASCAR. The Powerball promotion sparked his interest into the sport.

“I was excited but my wife told me not to get high or too low. I just had fun with it,” he added. The 57-year-old has three adult children but did not share with them his participation in the promotion until after he was eliminated.

For each round, the winners that advanced to the next round were announced during NASCAR events. Christopher was watching live and found out he made the original 16 during the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 1. Then learned he made it to the Round of 12 during the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 21.

The dream kept going during the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 13 when he advanced to the Round of 8.

“I was watching along and waiting for the announcement. They announced it halfway through the races,” the Prince George’s County resident explained.

The remaining four finalists won a VIP trip for two to NASCAR Championship Weekend™ at Phoenix Raceway®, Nov. 8-10, plus entry into the drawing for the $1 million prize.

The $1 million drawing will be broadcast live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race™ on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Christopher said he would have enjoyed the trip to Arizona and still plans to check out the festivities.

“I will watch it and I wish the rest of the players the best of luck,” he said.
