Laurel lady scores $50,000 top prize with sentimental lottery numbers
A Prince George’s County resident is $50,000 richer after using the numbers her mother gave her for a Pick 5 $1 straight bet.
The anonymous winner, calling herself “Lucky First Timer,” attributes her win to her mother. The lifelong Lottery player encouraged her to play Pick 5 and suggested a sentimental strategy: choose numbers with personal significance, such as family birthdays or anniversaries, and stick with them. Inspired by this approach, “Lucky First Timer” bought a ticket for the Nov. 10 evening drawing and Nov. 11 midday drawing, selecting numbers that held special meaning.
Her disbelief was overwhelming when she saw her numbers appear on the screen as the winning numbers for the Nov. 10 evening drawing during a news broadcast. “I was shocked I actually won!” she said. “I didn’t want to make a fuss because I didn’t want anyone to know, but I did call my mom and share the news right away.”
When asked about her plans for the $50,000 prize, “Lucky First Timer” said she plans to pay bills, ensure her family enjoys a memorable holiday, and put anything remaining into savings for a “rainy day.” The Laurel resident also shared her plans to keep playing, with hopes of one day claiming another top prize after she comes up with a new set of numbers.
The happy player bought the Pick 5 ticket at Giant, located at 1155 Annapolis Road in Odenton. The Anne Arundel County retailer receives $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 winning Pick 5 ticket.
