Scratch-off Fan Spots New Game, Wins $50,000

Finds second-tier win on $10 Mega Bucks instant ticket

A lifelong scratch-off fan who keeps an eye out for new games loaded with big prizes didn’t hesitate to purchase the new $10 Mega Bucks instant ticket and another $20 game on his lunch break. The colorful scratch-off went on sale Dec. 2.

Employed in the construction field, the Pasadena man and two coworkers visited Discount Cigarettes in Brooklyn Park on their break to buy scratch-offs, beverages and a bite to eat. He started out great on the Mega Bucks ticket, revealing a $100 prize in the bonus area at the top of the instant ticket’s play area.

“I saw the Bonus so I scratched the bottom (prize area) and scanned it,” he said. The $50,000 prize he won was a big surprise!

“My friends thought I was joking,” said the winner. He showed the lucky game to the store’s owner to confirm his big win and got a round of applause from the happy retailer, whose business is located at 5716 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park. The happy winner’s next move was to phone his wife and mother-in-law to share the great news.

The father of three said his winnings will help fund family activities and boost their savings account. This is the biggest win of his life – so far. “I won $10,000 a couple of years ago,” he said.

The Anne Arundel County man was the first in Maryland to win a second-tier prize in the game. All nine $100,000 top prizes are available, along with another nine $50,000 prizes and 32 unclaimed $10,000 prizes. Smaller prizes range from $10 to $1,000.
