Baltimore woman claims her biggest prize ever
A retired bank employee was on the receiving end of a helpful suggestion last week, advice that brought her to Lottery headquarters on Monday to be on the receiving end of a $50,000 check. The frequent player attributed her winning Pick 5 purchase to a family member’s wise council.
“We were running errands together when I realized the gas tank was almost empty,” the Baltimore City resident told officials. With the fill-up complete, she decided to buy a Lottery ticket while at Loch Raven BP in Towson.
“I was thinking about playing Keno when he said, ‘Get a Pick 5 ticket and use these numbers.’” Not having a particularly strong reason to play Keno, our winner went with the Pick 5 idea. She played his digits, $1 straight, in the Feb. 3 evening drawing.
When back in the car, she asked about the numbers and why they were significant. “They were the license tag numbers from one of his cars, he told me. And, he had a good feeling about them.” Later that night when visiting the Lottery’s website, she realized just what that “good feeling” had delivered.
“I thought to myself, ‘This can’t be real.’” Studying the Feb. 3 evening Pick 5 results and then her ticket, she began to feel very nervous. “Every time I looked at them and they still matched, I started sweating even more. It was like I was holding dynamite.”
The prize from the winning Pick 5 ticket she bought from Loch Raven BP at 6901 Loch Raven Boulevard will go toward bills. Management at the Baltimore County gas station can also celebrate. The business received a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the $50,000-winning ticket.
