Odenton woman’s special technique pays off
Since the Pick 5 game began in 2022, an Anne Arundel County woman has been playing and has been winning using a special technique she picked up along the way. She’ll buy a Quick Pick ticket, rearrange the numbers and use them for a $1 straight ticket.
It’s been paying off too, as she’s won smaller prizes the past couple years. However, using her technique last week paid off big, to the tune of $50,000.
The lucky lady was grocery shopping at a Giant store in Odenton when she decided to play her numbers. Using her technique, she purchased a Pick 5 Quick Pick ticket, took those five numbers and rearranged them. She then played 82524 straight, for two drawings. The retired grandmother finished up her shopping and headed home.
That night before bed, she looked up the evening drawing winning numbers. To her surprise, her numbers matched in the exact same order. She said she checked, “three or four times” to be certain.
“I thought to scan it, but I didn’t think it would show up yet, so I scanned my Quick Pick ticket first,” she said. That message showed a $400 win.
Knowing she was a winner, she scanned the straight ticket.
“It was very exciting, all of the confetti and congratulations message,” giggled the winner.
The married player was going to tell her husband, but decided she’d wait and surprise him for his birthday.
“She actually hid it from me until the night before my birthday,” said the winner’s husband who accompanied her to claim the prize. “She was talking about all of these home improvements she wanted to make and then she showed me the winning message on her phone.”
At Lottery Headquarters, the Odenton player shared with Lottery Officials that she planned to make those home improvements and will use some for holiday shopping.
The $50,000 winning ticket was purchased at the Giant Store located at 1155 Annapolis Road in Odenton. The Lottery retailer will receive a bonus of $500.
