Aberdeen Veteran Causes Excitement at Store with Gold Bar Bingo Win

Funds from his $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off may help Lloyd Harless of Aberdeen travel the world.

Clerk jumps around in celebration after scanned scratch-off reveals $50,000 prize

Lloyd Harless is happy that he won $50,000 on a Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off but said he wasn’t nearly as excited as the store clerk.

The Aberdeen resident explained that he handed his $5 instant ticket over to the gas station clerk to check for a win. Once the clerk scanned the scratch-off, which is the 5th edition of the game, the store employee started to jump around with excitement. Lloyd said he had no idea what was going on.

“It took a while for me to find out that I won,” he said.

The 81-year-old Harford County man is undecided on how he is going to spend his $50,000 top prize, but added that there are parts of the world that he wants to explore. Lloyd got to see some foreign countries when he served in the U.S. Air Force.

“My bucket list has gotten so big that I had to dump it out and start all over again,” he said with a laugh.

The retiree plays other Lottery games in addition to scratch-offs and said he’s also had luck with Pick 3. In fact, the veteran played the number 1-2-3 and it was drawn the night before he claimed his $50,000 prize. Lloyd added that he plays the numbers of deceased friends’ birthdays and has won multiple times.

He bought the winning scratch-off at Aberdeen Shell, located at 1026 Middleton Road in Harford County. The Aberdeen retailer will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket.

The Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition scratch-off went on sale July 22 with eight top prizes of $50,000. Lloyd is the second $50,000 winner; six top prizes remain. There are still eight $10,000 prizes awaiting discovery along with others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
