Abingdon Couple Claims $108.8 Million Powerball Jackpot

Public awaits news of their identity

Still reeling from their new multi-millionaire status, an Abingdon couple arrived at Lottery Headquarters to claim the first Powerball jackpot won in Maryland. The happy twosome, still contemplating whether to disclose their identities to the public, had the only winning ticket for the September 7th drawing.

“We’re thrilled to finally have a big Powerball jackpot win in Maryland,” said Communications Director Carole Everett. “It’s been quite a winning week here at the Maryland Lottery. We also welcomed a $200,000 Powerball winner, as well as a $1 million scratch-off winner.”

The lucky Powerball ticket was purchased in Harford County at Wine World, located at 406-A Constant Friendship Blvd. in Abingdon. Wine World owner Elizabeth LaBruto expressed her delight upon hearing the news, “I’m happy to hear that Maryland sold its first top-tier jackpot ticket, jazzed that it happened in this community and thrilled that Wine World was a part of it.  Good things happen to good people and Wine World customers are the best!” Wine World will receive a $25,000 commission for selling the ticket.
