Loyal player’s persistence, Lottery luck results in $50,000 win
A Baltimore County resident who plays the same numbers for every Powerball and Mega Millions drawing saw his persistence pay off, with a little help from Lady Luck. He won a $50,000 third-tier prize in the Dec. 16 Powerball drawing.
The loyal player also won a free $2 Mega Millions ticket with his purchase, which took place during the Lottery’s Jackpot Reset promotion. The Parkville man said there is no pattern or significance to any of his numbers. He randomly selected five rows of numbers one day and kept playing them.
“I have played the same numbers for years,” said the retired laborer.
After the drawing, he looked at his phone for the winning Powerball numbers and checked all five lines of his ticket. As he started to look between his phone and the ticket, he saw a match on one line with four of the five winning numbers and the Powerball.
The winning numbers for that Monday night drawing were 9, 30, 33, 57 and 61; the Powerball was 17. Our winner had a 29 instead of a 57 and just missed out on a $55 million jackpot. He was still happy to secure a $50,000 third-tier prize.
“I couldn’t sleep. I was up all night,” the big winner said with excitement.
He plans to use his prize to pay bills and buy his family extra holiday presents. The winner said he will keep playing his lucky numbers and plans to purchase a Mega Millions ticket for Friday’s night drawing, which has an estimated jackpot annuity of $825 million.
The winner bought the ticket at Perry Hall BP in Baltimore County. The Nottingham retailer is located at 8809 Belair Road.
The latest Jackpot Reset promotion is running until Dec. 22. Purchase a Powerball ticket and you could randomly win a free $2 Mega Millions ticket like this winner did!
