Baltimore County landscaper Kevin Wallett celebrates his $50,000 win on a $50,000 Cash scratch-off.
Lucky player’s pit stop leads to top prize on $20 instant ticket.
A Reisterstown landscaper is thankful he made an early morning stop at a local convenience store. Just a few weeks ago, Kevin Wallett’s visit to the Royal Farms store led to a $50,000 morning pick-me-up in the form of a top-prize winning $50,000 Cash scratch-off.
Owner of landscaping company BHK Lawn Maintenance, Kevin told Lottery officials that his crews start their day at an area convenience store by grabbing coffee, breakfast and scratch-offs.
When the Baltimore County man heard about their daily pit stop, and that some of his crew had won nice scratch-off prizes, he decided to play instant tickets, too. He visited Royal Farms #140 in Owings Mills, picked out a $50,000 Cash scratch-off and drove to the day’s work site.
He scratched off the $20 instant ticket while sitting in his truck and then scanned the game’s prize check area using the Lottery mobile app on his phone. When his phone displayed a ‘Take to Agent’ message, Kevin said he scratched a bit more of the instant ticket to solve the mysterious message and saw that he had won $50,000.
“When I saw that, a feeling just came over me. I couldn’t believe it,” Kevin said. He and his family are still pondering the possibilities of how they will use the prize.
His lucky Lottery retailer also benefits. For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, the store located at 10988 Red Run Boulevard will receive a $500 retailer bonus from the Lottery.
The popular $50,000 Cash game went on sale Dec. 29 with 160 top prizes of $50,000. There are still 142 remaining, along with 149 $5,000 prizes. The game was ranked fourth on the Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-offs roster for the week ending Feb. 5.
