Wins top prize playing $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off game
An ordinary day running errands with her granddaughter turned into an extraordinary day for a Baltimore woman when Lady Luck showed up. The caring grandmother won a $100,000 top prize playing the $30 $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off.
The big win happened last week. The two were on the way home and stopped at the Carroll Mart in Dundalk for gas and snacks. While there, the scratch-off fan tried her luck with the $30 game. Not wanting to delay the outcome, the Northeast Baltimore resident scratched off the prize check area on the game, scanned it in the store and was blown away with what she saw.
“I was shocked because it said ‘Congratulations, you’ve won $100,000,’” said the stunned grandma.
Her granddaughter was standing by her side when the winning message popped up and noticed that the store was quite crowded. Not wanting to draw any attention to the winning instant ticket, she knew just what to do.
“I said to her, ‘Let’s go,’” she told Lottery officials. The granddaughter, who accompanied her grandmother to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters, added, “I knew we needed to get out of there.”
The two discreetly left the store and went home. The grandmother, who was still in shock, put the winning scratch-off in a safe place when they arrived. And, her granddaughter proceeded to make an appointment for her to claim the prize in Baltimore, which they did this week.
The lucky lady shared that she will first use the winnings to pay bills and will decide later what to do with the rest of her prize.
The $100,000 Ca$h instant ticket, which went on sale in September 2023, was packed with $100,000 top prizes, 65 to be exact. There are 52 top prizes remaining. There are also hundreds of thousands of other unclaimed prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
The Lottery retailer that sold the scratch-off is also celebrating. The Carroll Mart located at 220 Wise Avenue in Dundalk will collect a $1,000 Lottery bonus for selling the $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
