Baltimore Man Eager to Bank $50,000 Prize, Focus on the Future

Loyal Lottery player plans to concentrate on career while saving windfall

A Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore is in a good place with his life and job, so he’s just going to put the proceeds of a $50,000 scratch-off win “right in the bank and try to forget about it.”

Speaking July 17 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, the winner described playing scratch-offs as being “like a hobby.” He is very focused on his work, the specifics of which he did not want to reveal, and playing instant tickets is a nice diversion.

“I’m a big advocate of playing scratch-offs,” he said. He has a set daily budget for playing and sticks to it. His finances are in good order and “I’m doing fine at work,” he said, adding that he wants the prize to be available in the future.

His $50,000 win on the $5 20X The Cash game is far and away his top dollar score. He has also won $500 three or four times and hit for $1,000 a few months back. He bought this lucky instant ticket at the 7-Eleven store at 55 Market Place in Baltimore. The store receives a Lottery bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.

Our winner found the fifth of eight top prizes in the game, which went on sale in January 2024. Also remaining are prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
