Wins $50,000 top prize on Gold Bar Bingo game
An HVAC technician from Baltimore was expecting two much-needed things when he walked into Normandy Wine & Spirits last week. He planned to get a cold beverage and $50 in cash, courtesy of a winning Lottery ticket he planned to cash at the Ellicott City retailer.
“My son and I were thirsty, it was a hot day,” the city resident explained to Lottery officials. “I sent him to grab the drinks and I cashed my big winner.”
When he noticed that the store sold Gold Bar Bingo 5th Edition scratch-offs, he wasn’t expecting to soon receive a third happy thing that would outshine the others by a considerable amount. He bought a Gold Bar Bingo instant ticket with part of his winnings, pocketing the game to play later and went on his way.
“I’ve done really well with this one. I get one whenever I see it,” he said of the $5 5th edition scratch-off. He didn’t realize just how well he’d done with that specific Gold Bar Bingo instant ticket until the next day.
“I scratched it and didn’t see the win, but just to be sure, I scanned it with my Lottery app.” Shocked to see his instant ticket identified as a $50,000 top-prize winner, he looked at it again. “That’s when I saw that I’d forgotten to count the ‘free space’ on one of my bingo cards.”
“A $50,000 win? Good Lord, I was blown away.”
The happy HVAC tech plans to use his winnings to tackle bills and medical expenses his family is facing. “This is a big, big deal for my family. It’s come at just the right moment for us.”
This latest edition of the Gold Bar Bingo game went on sale in July. The top-prize win is the game’s first, leaving seven still in circulation. Nine $10,000 second-tier prizes also remain. The good folks at Normandy Wine & Spirits will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket. This lucky Howard County business can be found at 8492 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City.
