David Towler of Baltimore is the first top-prize winner in the new Frogger scratch-off game.
Becomes first big winner in new $3 game
Putting his wife’s scratch-off purchase first paid off for a Baltimore man, who leapt at the chance to play the new Frogger scratch-off and became the game’s first $30,000 top-prize winner.
David Towler of Baltimore said he visited Cherry Hill Grocery in Baltimore to purchase a Deluxe Crossword scratch-off for himself and his wife. The 49-year-old purchased the $5 game for his wife and then realized he only had $3 left in cash. The warehouse employee purchased the $3 Frogger game because of its price and the fact that he enjoyed playing the video game by the same name when he was a kid.
“It was a pretty simple game,” he said, “don’t get run over or eaten by an alligator.”
The Frogger scratch-off happened to be another simple game for David. Frogger has three ways to win and three paths for three frogs. Players scratch each frog and follow the arrows. If players can navigate their way to the top without hitting a “Game Over” symbol, they win the prize listed. In David’s case, the first frog’s path led him to the $30,000 prize.
“It is an easy game to play, just follow the arrows,” David said. Players can also win prizes by revealing three identical symbols in the three revealed paths or by matching three identical prize amounts across the three paths.
David said he is going to use the money to finish some home renovation projects, pay bills and get his wife a nice present. “I am going to treat my lady. You know the old saying, ‘Happy wife, happy life,’” he said as his wife joined him in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The owners of Cherry Hill Grocery at 603 Cherry Hill Road in Baltimore are having a happier life, too. The Lottery retailer will receive a $300 bonus for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.
Frogger went on sale on March 20. David is the first $30,000 winner but five more top prizes are unclaimed. The game is packed with other prizes, too, ranging from $3 to $1,000. Players can enter non-winning Frogger scratch-offs into their My Lottery Rewards account for a chance to win a Frogger Arcade Machine.
