Finds big win playing Deluxe Crossword 7th Edition game
A weekly scratch-off player of 50 years just won the last top prize available on the 7th edition of her favorite scratch-off, the Deluxe Crossword game. The Baltimore City resident, who chose to remain anonymous, is going by the nickname “Baby Macy” to share her lucky story.
The excitement began soon after “Baby Macy” revealed eight winning words on the $5 game. Initially, she was in disbelief. She took her time, looking over the instant ticket repeatedly and confirmed she had revealed four black-lettered words and four red-lettered words for a $50,000 top-prize win.
The loyal player said she then put the instant ticket in a safe hiding place. After about a week, she called her daughter and asked her to take a look at the scratch-off to verify what she thought was a big win. Her daughter escorted her to a 7-Eleven that had a Lottery ticket scanner.
“I scanned it and it said $50,000. There was no way! I scanned it about five or six times and asked the cashier if this was a joke,” recalled the winner. “I kept scanning it and $50,000 kept coming up.”
“Baby Macy” has played Lottery games since the Maryland Lottery first began selling tickets. She spends about $20 a week on scratch-offs and favors the crossword-themed games because they take more time to play. The retired 74-year-old said she will use the money to go on vacation and give anything left over to her adult kids. After years of playing, “Baby Macy” has no plans to stop. “I play for fun. When you turn my age, you find fun in small things like this,” she said.
The Lottery retailer that sold the lucky Deluxe Crossword scratch-off is also a winner. The 7-Eleven #39243, which is located at 3436 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
