Lucky woman plays game for first time, claims top prize
Until recently, a loyal Lottery player from Baltimore was strictly focused on scratch-offs. She was such an avid instant ticket enthusiast that she didn’t bother buying a Powerball ticket even when the jackpot rolled past $1 billion. However, after being encouraged to take a chance for the first time on Bonus Match 5, the lucky lady did so and scored a $50,000 top prize.
Her mom played a role in the winner’s brush with Lottery luck. Also an avid Lottery enthusiast, her mother convinced our winner to try a game other than scratch-offs. The winner decided to do so and visited Tobacco Barrel #307 located at 3834 East Lombard Street in Baltimore. She spent $2 for a quick-pick ticket that earned her a $50,000 fortune in the Oct. 10 drawing.
The Baltimore optician watched the news the next morning and was in complete shock when she realized that she won the top prize. “Oh my,” was all she could say. The happy player called her mother to share news of her win and shortly afterward, also told her husband of 32 years.
Employed as an optician for the last 30 years, the winner plans to use her prize to pay bills and will share some of the funds with family members. When she’s not working or playing Lottery games, she enjoys spending time cooking, baking and decorating her home.
Her lucky retailer, Tobacco Barrel #307, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. This year, the Lottery has sold 26 top-prize winning tickets in the daily game.
