Plans to continue playing in pursuit of another big winner
A Lottery enthusiast from Baltimore is now looking forward to a more secure retirement, thanks to a $100,000 Powerball win that came her way on Mother’s Day weekend.
She didn’t check the $20 ticket for a win until Sunday, using the Maryland Lottery app on her smartphone. The winner, who is calling herself “Jewel” to tell her Lottery story, said she was initially in disbelief about her third-tier win in the May 13 drawing.
“I’ve been playing for years, and I didn’t expect to win this much,” she said. While celebrating her Lottery luck, the 68-year-old called her brother and mother to share the good news.
When asked about her plans for her prize, “Jewel” said she intends to use the funds to be sure her mother and brother are taken care of because family is her foundation. She might even buy herself something nice, she said, and focus on being happy. Part of that happiness will include playing the Lottery for entertainment. “Jewel” said she enjoys playing Powerball, Multi-Match, Cash4Life and Mega Millions.
The lucky lady, who has personal sets of numbers that she plays, also added the Power Play option to her ticket. The Power Play 2X multiplier in the drawing doubled her $50,000 third-tier prize. She bought the lucky ticket at the Soda Pop Shop located at 1026 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville. The Baltimore County business is the winner’s go-to place for Lottery tickets.
No one has hit the jackpot, which has rolled to an estimated annuity of $146 million for the Wednesday, May 17 drawing. The estimated cash option is $78.2 million.
