Wife and husband cash in on lifechanging windfall
A lifelong Baltimore Ravens fan and Lottery enthusiast who has played Lottery games for decades with her husband just scored the equivalent of a touchdown playing Mega Millions. She won $1 million!
The Harford County couple, who wished to remain anonymous, say they have spent decades enjoying scratch-offs, Cash4Life, Powerball and Mega Millions. Although their dream of hitting the $619 million Mega Millions jackpot didn’t come true, their persistence paid off with a life-changing win in the game’s Dec. 10 drawing.
The winner vividly remembers the day her husband bought the tickets that led to their big moment. “He left the house to pick up four Mega Millions tickets — two for him and two for me. We were hoping for the jackpot, but this is still such a blessing,” she said.
He made the purchase at a Wawa store in Bel Air. A few days after the drawing, her husband checked the winning numbers online. To his astonishment, one of the tickets his wife had signed matched the winning numbers for a $1 million second-tier prize.
“Floored, he rushed to wake me up,” she said. “At first, I thought I was dreaming. I’m still speechless, but I feel so blessed to receive a gift like this.”
To confirm their good fortune, the couple revisited the Wawa at 709 Bel Air Road in Harford County to scan the $2 ticket and verify the win. Since then, they’ve shared the news only with their children and will keep the Lottery windfall a secret as they plan their next steps.
What will they do with the prize? “We’re going to save and invest most of it,” the wife said. “I hope to help my family, make a generous donation to our church, and ensure we have savings for the future.”
And will the couple continue playing the Lottery? “Yes!” they said in unison. “Now we really have the money to play, so we’ll keep going!”
