“Engineer” of Baltimore turned the agony of tax season into a $50,000 Pick 5 win.
Income tax return inspired a winning Pick 5 number
Many people dread tax season, especially if they have to send a payment to the IRS along with their 1040 form. A Baltimore woman who owed $1,997 used the amount as inspiration for her Pick 5 digits and won $50,000.
The lucky player chose the nickname “Engineer” to tell her winning story. After settling up with Uncle Sam, the “Engineer” decided to take the amount she paid and add another “9” to make it five digits (19997). She played 19997 for the April 14 midday and evening drawings on a $1 straight ticket she purchased at Royal Farms #016 in Glen Burnie.
“Engineer” said she checked her phone the next morning and was amazed to discover she was a winner in the evening drawing. “I couldn’t believe that number hit. It was incredible,” she said.
A huge fan of Racetrax, she also occasionally plays Pick 4. “Engineer” added that she rarely plays Pick 5 and this was the first time she played 19997.
“I don’t know why I decided to play but something told me to play,” she added.
The 62-year-old plans to pay bills with her prize and may also use some of her winnings to continue to go on trips to local wineries and visit escape rooms with family members. She is also happy to get back that $1,997 from Pick 5 that she sent off already to pay her income taxes.
Another big winner during tax season was Royal Farms #016 located in Glen Burnie at 6901 Ritchie Highway North. Because the Anne Arundel County retailer sold the lucky ticket to “Engineer,” the store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
