Player bought GAME OF THRONES™ scratch-off for her fiancé
A woman’s birthday trip from tidewater Virginia to the Ocean Downs Casino on Maryland’s Eastern Shore started out slow, but had a surprise ending. Her $5 GAME OF THRONES™ scratch-off revealed a $50,000 top prize.
The player and her fiancé started playing games in the casino. After losing $35, she decided to try her luck with Maryland Lottery games through vending machines at the Berlin operation.
The Princess Anne County resident purchased a few tickets while her boyfriend continued playing in the table games area. She chose the GAME OF THRONES scratch-off because her boyfriend is a fan of the show. One of the ways to win is to uncover a crossed swords symbol over a dollar amount for a win, and the player knew as soon as she saw that symbol over $50,000 that she’d won big.
Or, rather, they had won big.
“He gets half,” she said of her fiancé’s share. After all, she did buy the $5 instant ticket for him. She allowed the split even though he started loudly announcing the win while she wanted to keep it more low key. With her half of the winnings, she plans to fix up their house.
A fan of the Virginia Lottery, the winner said she also plays when she visits Maryland. She particularly likes Maryland’s Keno screens, which change themes throughout each day. In Virginia, she said, there is a single theme on the screen for each month, and there’s no variation during the day.
For its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Ocean Downs Casino at 10218 Racetrack Road in Berlin receives a Lottery bonus of $500.
This was the third of six top prizes the game started with when it went on sale in September 2024. Players have purchased about 58 percent of the game’s instant tickets and it remains popular at the number 18 spot on the Lottery’s Top 40 list of scratch-off games.
