She claims first top prize on $5 scratch-off
A Baltimore woman who makes a living as a chef created the perfect recipe for a winner of a day. She discovered the first $50,000 top prize in the new Bonus Cash Doubler game.
The 42-year-old, who chose to remain anonymous, selected the nickname “Happy and Geeky” to share the story of her Lottery luck. “Happy and Geeky” enjoys playing Maryland Lottery games weekly, choosing a variety of scratch-offs and Racetrax tickets.
She typically finds herself winning small amounts here and there but says she “never won anything close to this amount or a top prize.” The lucky lady bought the winning scratch-off at Rieve’s Deli located at 8374 Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton. She initially was in a state of shock and disbelief when she revealed the prize. “That’s a lot of money!” said the winner. She scanned the $5 instant ticket a few times and even showed it to the deli’s owner, who applauded her.
“Happy and Geeky” was still feeling a sense of shock and disbelief the day she claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters but said she is “grateful for the blessing.” Asked what she’ll do with her winnings, the loyal player quickly replied that she wants to help her family. Growing up, she was very close to her sisters and looks forward to gifting them something nice. She also plans to pay bills and spoil herself with some new tech gadgets and toys.
“Happy and Geeky” isn’t alone in her Lottery luck. Rieve’s Deli in Anne Arundel County receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $50,000.
The Bonus Cash Doubler instant ticket went on sale on July 17 with eight top prizes. There are still seven top prizes remaining along with others ranging from $5 to $5,000.
