Bowie Woman’s Random Purchase Leads to $1.8 Million Win

Casual player had no idea Multi-Match jackpot was over $1 million

A Prince George’s County resident who plays Lottery games once or twice a year has her mom to thank for her $1.8 million win in an Oct. 28 drawing. The Bowie woman was at the gas station when her mom talked her into buying a random ticket for a random game.

That random ticket was a jackpot winner and the random game was Multi-Match, which enjoyed a jackpot roll of nearly three months before her lucky purchase. It took some time for the novice to realize she was a millionaire as her mom, who is a regular player, took the lucky ticket home with her!

When her mom scanned the ticket to see if her daughter won anything, she received a “Go to Lottery” message. The curious mother decided to pull up the winning numbers for the drawing on her phone and couldn’t believe her eyes. The ticket’s digits matched the winning numbers!

“I looked at it and said, ‘No way,'” the mom recalled. When she delivered the great news to her daughter, the lucky winner was also in disbelief.

“I didn’t think it was real. I wasn’t sure it was real until the next day,” she said.

The nurse then saw an article on mdlottery.com that the winning ticket was sold in Glenn Dale at Chesapeake Market, located at 12300 Annapolis Road. That was the spot where she had purchased her ticket! The Prince George’s County retailer is also winner and received a Lottery bonus of $1,800 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

This is the first Multi-Match jackpot win since the jackpot was last hit in the Aug. 1 drawing. The nurse had no idea the jackpot was over $1 million when she purchased the ticket.

Multi-Match winners can choose between the annuity, paid in 25 equal installments, or the jackpot’s cash option. She chose the cash option, which was $1.075 million before taxes. This was Maryland’s eighth Multi-Match jackpot win in 2024.
