Clerk at shop in Chesapeake Beach helped confirm the prize
A Maryland Lottery player in Chesapeake Beach wasn’t sure if she won when her $5 FAST PLAY Double Win ticket printed, so she asked the clerk to check. She won $50,000!
The Calvert County resident had checked her ticket after buying it on Feb. 9. When she scanned it with her Lottery app, it flashed a message to take it to a retailer.
“I said, ‘What does this mean?’” to the clerk, the lucky lady said. The store employee scanned the ticket and let her know she had hit for one of 20 top prizes (17 remain). Although pleased, she remained low key.
“I was just happy. I put it in my purse and went home,” she said.
The helpful clerk was at Twin Beach Convenience Store at 8426 Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach. The Lottery retailer receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game.
The player says she may celebrate her win with a crab cake dinner, but had no plans yet for how to spend the bulk of her windfall. A regular Lottery player, she also buys tickets for Pick 5, placing straight and box bets, as well as scratch-offs. She has won smaller amounts over the years. The attraction of playing, she says, is “when you hit!”
Now is the time to play FAST PLAY! During our FAST PLAY Fridays promotion, under way every Friday in February, play any $5 FAST PLAY game for a chance to win a free $10 or $20 FAST PLAY game. Free tickets are awarded at random.
